Cruise Vacations - Frequently Asked Questions

without comments

You will have many questions when planning your cruise vacations. I have been on many cruises and have heard many recurring questions. This article will address the frequently asked questions about cruising.

Is there a specific time period of when I can eat? Well, there is a “yes” and “no” answer to this. Typically, most cruise ships have a scheduled eating time where diners can enjoy a variety of foods and meal plans. The majority of ships have a flexible meal plan where you can enjoy foods whenever you want. Also you can eat foods with whom you want (that’s important for some). However, the flexible meal plans are limited to certain types of food. Sometimes reservations are required for some dining establishments on board a ship. You might have to wait in line for your food and the occupants with the most expensive cabins with get first choice among the food.

Alternative dining service is a dining establishment on board the vessel that are different than the main restaurant. These dining services usually cost additional money and can cost from $15 to $50 per person to use these facilities. However, the food quality, service and overall ambiance are much better than the main restaurant. People who are sick and tired of waiting in long lines, noise and sharing tables are fond of this service. Most importantly, the alternative dining establishments are more cozy and offer and quieter and more romantic environment.

Should I get an outside cabin or inside cabin? What’s the difference between the two? Here’s my question to you: do you want a window to look out of or do you want to pay less and not have a window? An outside cabin has a window and sometimes a balcony. An interior cabin won’t have a window and are often decorated with artwork or covered by a large curtain. Of course, you will pay more for a room with a view!

Can I use my cell-phone on the ship? Of course you can use your cell-phone. However, you will have to pay additional fees when in roaming. Make sure to check with your cell-phone provider for roaming and carrier fees. Usually, I would recommend that you turn off your phone at sea. You will have to pay international carrier fees as cruise ships tend to use international carriers to reduce costs. You’re on vacation. You’re calls can wait for heaven’s sake!

Can I check my internet while I’m cruising? Most cruise ships have internet and wi-fi access. You will have to pay for these services and will be charged on average, .50 cents per minutes.
