First Time Buying A Gps Navigation Unit?

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

If you are in the market to buy a GPS navigation system and it is the first time that you have ever purchased one, it might seem a little confusing the first time out. But that does not have to be if you know what you needs are. Here you’ll find a few of the best systems on the market to help you get a start.

The Tom Tom Go 740 Live is an information packed GPS navigation device that gives you complete traffic reports, what is going on with the weather, it also includes local fuel prices as well. The system is powered by Google search and map and this model has the ability to update information much faster than in the past.

You can get all your information in “real time” and it has its own instant messaging program where you can send all your details to all your family and friends via an instant message. Another nice feature is that you can go into the system and make changes. This especially comes in handy when there have been street name changes or location of business changes, etc.

The only draw back for this system is that the battery life is only about two hours before you have to recharge it and that it does seem to have a slow response time when getting your route directions.

Garmin Nuvi 1690 is a GPS navigation system that actually offers free (ad supported) service from their NuLink data service which is a combination of ATandT and MSN Direct. For the first two years the service is ad supported and after that if you want to remove the ads you will be charged five dollars a month for their ad free service.

This unit is jam packed with features such as finding gas prices, getting incident reports, weather reports, Google search, White Pages search, flight information, even movie times and information. The system is also equipped with Bluetooth hands free dialing.

The only draw back for this GPS navigation unit is the fact that it no longer takes standard size SD memory cards and have switched to microSD cards.

Another good GPS navigation system is yet another Tom Tom, the Tom Tom XL340 S is a less expensive a bit larger model. But do not let the lower price misguide you into thinking its not a good model. It is full of your standard features and it has a larger screen with larger icons for those who prefer a much easier visual effect. A real nice feature is the voice to text feature where you have complete hands free control with voice activation.

The great thing about he voice to text is that the responding voice can be English, Spanish or French and better yet if you want, you can download celebrity voices to add more fun to the experience.

The GPS navigation system called the Magellan Roadmate 1470. This system has a nice little feature that picks up on the most commonly visited places by most people and allows those to be easily accessed by just a touch of the finger. This system does not lack in features having pretty much all the same features of most similar systems. One thing that you will notice about this particular system is its exceptional speed.

The way this unit has to be mounted in the car is a little bit awkward because the cable that is used to connect it seems to get in the way somewhat.

Have you ever noticed all of the portable gps deals that are in the world? Gps systems are definitely a big hit in the universe today. With the right GPS system, you will never get stranded again.

LG LX290 An Affordable Phone With Great Features

Monday, August 10th, 2009

With the flood of advanced cell phones being released many people might be a bit intimidated when shopping for a new phone. Not everyone wants a top of the line phone with all the bells and whistles available. People these days still want simple and functional phones. There is a bad stigma with reasonably priced phones that they are terribly made and are completely useless. That is not true; as far as cheaper phones go Sprint has released the LG LX290. It is a reasonably priced phone that is sure to please anyone who cant afford an expensive smartphone.

The LX290 is slide phone. The design is rather uncomplicated but it still looks sleek and modern. It is fairly small and feels very sturdy when held in ones hand. The slide mechanism works very well and doesn’t feel lose at all. For a small screen it displays very nice looking colors and images. Underneath the slide compartment and over the alphanumeric pad are four shortcut buttons for text messaging menu, e-mail, calendar, and the alarm clock. The buttons are very convenient as those are some of the most used programs on the cell phone.

This phone obviously doesn’t have any features that cant be found on more expensive phones, but it does come with a few additions that many may find surprising on such an affordable phone. Firstly a minimalist web browser. It also features a GPS system with turn by turn directions. This is usually found on higher end phones. The phone also features a USB port and is Bluetooth enabled. More notably are the e-mail and instant messaging functions. Many lower end phones skimp on the options but the LX290 allows you to access AIM, Yahoo Messenger, and Windows Live for instant messaging and AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, and Gmail for e-mail access.

Unfortunately the camera on the phone is nothing to write home about. The camera is only 1.3 megapixels, which is not much in the cell phone world. The photo quality is decent enough with the pictures appearing blurry and slightly grainy. To help in taking the best looking photos possible there are many image control options. They are three different resolutions, five white balance presets, four color tones, and more. The phone is absent of any video recording capabilities.

Luckily the phone has great call quality. During phone calls there was no interference from static or any kind of ambient noise. The callers sounded very clear and natural. The phones microphone does a good job at isolating ones voice so users will sound equally clear to callers. The speaker phone works just as well, it produces a crisp sounding voice on both ends.

This would make a great phone for anyone who needs an affordable phone with useful functions. The LG LX290 is a phone for the everyday person who doesn’t need the latest monster of a cell phone device.

T-Mobile wanted to create a seamless transition into the smartphone race so they decided to upgrade the already existing Dash. T-Mobile just released the Dash 3G and despite one or two flaws it is still a great phone for anyone who needs an affordable smartphone.

The Dash 3G has a great look and feel. It is a more professional looking phone due to the soft finish along the backside of it. The phone appears unique among all other shiny metal finished phones. The phone is not too big and will fit neatly into ones pocket. One of the more notable drawbacks to the Dash 3G is the screens small size. The resolution is only 320×240; in the smartphone world that isnt much. You may see some stray pixels when viewing photos, videos, websites etc. One the plus side the trackball navigator is very easy to use and will make surfing the web really easy. It is a step up over the rudimentary d-pad found on a lot of phones out there. Also the full QWERTY keyboard is very comfortable to utilize. The keys arent cramped and small like on most smartphones. The Dash 3G offers users more than one application for GPS but only using TeleNav Navigation will he or she be able to receive real time voice directions to their destination.

The camera found on the Dash 3G is really great. It is a 2 megapixel camera and takes nice looking photos for a camera phone. It is a big improvement over the mediocre 1.3 megapixel camera on the previous Dash. The camera has various presets and image control options allowing users to take very nice looking photographs. Surprisingly the Dash 3G is also able to record video. The video quality was admittedly OK but the video can be grainy if there is too much action happening in front of the camera.

The T-Mobile Dash 3G is a very good phone. It enhances and improves on everything the Dash did. Its a great phone for anyone who is looking for a versatile phone packed with amazing features. But be wary of the small screen.

Marine GPS Navigation System

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Most boaters and mariners utilize the Marine GPS systems in their navigation because of its way of finding out their way back to the shore, especially if they are in unfamiliar spots at day or at night, or if they want to find large species of fish, or if they want to avoid debris along the way.

History of Marine GPS:

While it wasnt that long ago that boaters or mariners consulted star charts and latitude/longitude numbers to figure out their way back to land, Marine GPS navigation changed the need for the inaccurate tracking system that some could not figure out. GPS or global positioning systems came into vogue after the launch of satellites that could send a signal of latitude and longitude locations to figure exactly where anything was back on Earth. This principal has been used in fishing sonars and marine GPS systems, that use anywhere from 12 to 24 satellites to figure out positioning.

Marine GPS Navigation Systems-Purpose

The answer is simple, it is more accurate, less hassle than previous methods to find out where you are on the open sea or any body of water for that matter. Also, the most important reason is for safety. Not only can it keep you from getting lost, but you can chart ways around tropical storms at sea, or alternate routes, for whatever reason.

The Future of Marine GPS

The marine GPS systems continue to get more sophisticated, and come in hand-held models, all the way up to marine GPS navigation lap top computers. Depending on the functions you want, you can find a marine GPS that can do whatever you want it to, when it comes to navigation, topography in foreign water bodies, or take it hiking and camping with you, if it is a hand-held portable marine GPS. Some of the larger cruisers and yachts use it to auto-pilot a ship, and navigate back to port in the dark of night.

Marine GPS-Choosing and Buying One

Choosing a Marine GPS for purchase would depend largely on what you would be using it for. You should first determine where you want to use it before buying one. The accessories, functions, and the quality of the unit are important considerations in choosing the right model. It would take some researches to finally decide on which unit is applicable to your own objectives. Marine GPS are expensive and because of this, you would want to be sure of what model is right for your intended purposes.

Marine GPS navigation systems have gotten to be almost a requirement for all types of water navigation, and finding a marine GPS unit is easy at retailers, but especially online, where the choices are unlimited. As more manufacturers have gotten into the GPS systems, even cell phones are GPS capable now. Its all a matter of the number of functions you need for what you are going to be doing, when it comes to marine GPS navigation.

Online Product Reviews

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Almost all products sold by online retailers can attract thousands of comments. Why are worth reading or writing? Are online reviews of products relevant and credible? Another way you could ask this question is to make confidence offline word of mouth from friends and acquaintances. And in comments online and offline as credible word of mouth? If a book on Amazon.com, the leading online retailer, already has hundreds of comments, it’s worth adding another? Obviously, some people think it is. Peter Hoflich, a financial journalist based in Singapore, recently wrote the 3250th review of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” for example. “I wonder if anyone will benefit from my analysis, especially because there are so many,” he muses. Interestingly, someone could. This is because the number of comments or crude comments, and the proportion of positive and negative, to send signals to other people, although not all trawl through them. Consequently, web sites as easy as possible for people to add their comments.

Amazon was a pioneer in this respect: it has allowed customers to post reviews of books and other products for many years. Initially, publishers and authors were concerned that allowing negative comments hurt sales. Online retailers have generally been reluctant to allow users to leave comments. But a handful of bad reviews, it seems worth having. “No one trusts all the positive feedback,” he says. So a small proportion of the negative comments, “just enough to recognize that the product can not be perfect,” may actually make an item more attractive to potential buyers.

Oddly enough, somebody might. That is because the raw number of reviews or comments, and the proportion of positive and negative ones, send useful signals to other people, even if they do not trawl through all of them. Accordingly, websites make it as easy as possible for people to add their comments. Amazon was a pioneer in this regard: it has allowed customers to post reviews of books and other products for many years. Initially, publishers and authors were worried that allowing negative reviews would hurt sales. Online retailers have generally been reluctant to allow users to leave comments,.

However, even when a product has attracted thousands of comments, they keep coming five inches of the first reviews on the popular book “Twilight” series, published in October 2005, were posted on Amazon.com in a typical day recently. The majority of retailers and comparison sites to try to strike a balance between the latest and most useful comments. Allowing visitors to type of assessment allows a more informative to rise to the top. And show the latest comments indicate that people are still interested in the product.

This prompted respondents focus on quantity, not quality, but it recently changed its Amazon ranking system. Now, the utility of the revisions are taken into account, causing Harriet Klausner, the most prolific author with more than 18,000 reviews to his credit, to drop below 500th place in the rankings. Readers comments rated its usefulness as 71% of the time, compared with 95% for the new number one reviewer, “Mark”, who has written more than 500 comments. What is true for tests does not seem to apply to comments left on blogs or news, however. “You probably can have a discussion to nearly 350 comments,” says Markos Moulitsas, founder of Daily Kos, a popular leftist politician of the site. But after that, he says, “out of most people stay away from the screw, and further growth will come from people already in this thread lead a discussion, debate or discussion.” These are the threads of discussion more than a conversation, and that inhabit the site usually has a limited lifetime during which people remain after the Amazon as opposed to the pages of “Harry Potter” books, which continue to attract comments yet Today, years after the books publication.

With the votes (which is sortable) and abuse reporting, customers can smell fraud. We found many of our clients’ customers are forced to jump to its own review, when a review is “off” is published. So among the analysts of our content (we read each review and revision of several factors, fraud) and clients, we maintain a high level of authenticity.

Where Can I Get A Garmin nuvi For The Best Price?

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Everywhere you look this Christmas Season you see ads for the Garmin nuvi GPS System - it’s sure to be one of the top sellers! If you want to find a Garmin nuvi at a good price this year, you’re going to want to shop early. The Garmin GPS systems have been out for a couple of years, but they’re just starting to get really popular because of new features like voice activation and traffic information.

Where’s the best place to get a good price on a Garmin nuvi?

Your best bet for finding a good price on the Garmin nuvi is to visit some of the online auction sites. That’s where you can find the best prices, you can bid what you want to pay, and also get fast delivery. Many of the sellers offer “new in box” systems, and some places also have “out of box” systems which can save you a lot of money. If you don’t mind a product that doesn’t have the packaging, you can save big!

Ebay is the best place to start looking for the Garmin nuvi since it’s really the “daddy” of all auction sites. There are literally millions of sellers on ebay, offering every model you might be interested in. You can find new Garmins, used ones, bundles, accessories - the works! Plus because there are so many sellers, you’re going to be able to find any model, not just the ones the stores carry (or are sold out of!)

If you don’t mind buying used, Ebay might be just the ticket for you. The way Ebay is structered as far as regulations and feedback, you can be sure you get what you’re expecting. Plus, lots of times the used systems are just as good as new!

Another great reason to shop Ebay for your Garmin GPS is the fact that you might not be able to find it anywhere else! Some of the models of the Garmin nuvi GPS have sold out pretty much everywhere and your only chance to find them is on Ebay. Yes, you may pay a little more than retail, but you’re going to be able to find the model you’re looking for. Plus, you’re still going to pay the best price, since you’ve got so many options.

If you don’t like shopping online, you could go to your local big-box outlet and try to find a Garmin nuvi there. However, this option isn’t recommended for finding the Garmin nuvi best price. The good thing about this option is that you’ve got the unit immediately, so you can shop up until the last minute. Problem is they sell out, and a lot of these store don’t sell all the different models anyway.

Another great place to try is Amazon Marketplace. At Amazon, you have the benefit of ease of use, reliable shipping, and ease of return if something is wrong. Once again, at Amazon you have the choice between new and used systems. Plus, the selection of merchandise you can get for your Garmin nuvi is mind-boggling at Amazon.

These are a couple of very good sources for getting your Garmin nuvi GPS and the best price possible. But get shopping - the closer it gets to Christmas, the more you’re going to pay!
